Pinecrest Dedicates Memorial Wall and Stations of the Cross
Family members of departed Pinecrest students, alumni, faculty, and staff gathered for a Memorial Wall and Stations of the Cross Dedication Ceremony on April 12, 2019.
They were joined by the families who built and installed our beautiful outdoor Stations, along with members from Pinecrest Academy’s faculty and staff.
The Stations of the Cross and Memorial Wall were made possible by the generous efforts of Mary and Rick Schumann. Pinecrest was honored to dedicate these beautiful places of reflection to the memory their son, Darrell James Schumann, Lance Corporal with the United States Marine Corps, who gave his life in service to our country. He is uncle of Pinecrest fifth grader, Darrell Schumann, his namesake.
The Memorial Wall, which was erected near the Our Lady of Victory statue, a gift from the Class of 2015, and just beyond the fourteenth Station of the Cross, honors the memory of the following students, alumni and faculty:

The Dedication Ceremony, led by Charlene Dougal, Director of Development, began in the Dr. Tierney Memorial Garden, a beautiful place of reflection honoring Pinecrest’s first Headmaster, Dr. Brian Tierney. Fr. Matthew Kaderabek, LC, Pinecrest’s Lower School Chaplain, officiated the ceremony, blessed the Memorial Wall, and led attendees through a scriptural Stations of the Cross.
In a beautiful show of honor to Lance Corporal Schumann and his family, fifth grade students accompanied fellow student, Darrell Schumann, to the dedication ceremony, participating in the reading of the Stations of the Cross.
A special thank you goes out to the families who have worked tirelessly to design, create, build, and install the outdoor Stations of the Cross and the Memorial Wall. The love and commitment shown by these families is a blessing to all Pinecrest families and students – past, present, and future. May God bless these families:
