7th Grade Boys Basketball Team Takes Metro 10 Championship

Our 7th Grade Basketball Team became the Metro 10 Champions on February 4, 2017! The team finished with a record of 17-1 overall.
The championship game  vs. Mt. Paran was truly a team win, as each player contributed and played their best when their best was needed. The game started off neck-and-neck, with Pinecrest taking a 9-7 lead into the second quarter. The Paladins ran into some foul trouble early in the second quarter; however, the team rallied and stepped it up on the defensive end, holding Mt. Paran to one point in the second quarter.

Great efforts from Anthony Carpio and Breckin Barbee helped spark the defense and played a huge role in slowing down the Eagles. Offensively, Pinecrest was energized by three second quarter three’s from JJ Hayes, Will Howell and Drew Clare, that led to a 22-8 lead at the half. In the third quarter, the Paladins picked up right where they left off as Oscar Lynch scored 10 points and the defensive effort continued to stifle the Eagles on offense.

The game concluded with seven different Paladins scoring in the fourth quarter and Pinecrest on top by a final score of 49-24. A special shout out goes to Wills Anderson and Christian Wesemeyer, who were unable to play in the game due to injury, but were major contributors to the team’s success over the course of the season. The team was truly deserving of their win due to all of the hard work and effort they put in over the course of the season. It was especially exciting to play the Championship game at home! The support from the Middle School students and teachers throughout the season was incredible, and the team is extremely thankful!

This season was a great testimony of team and living out the team motto, “OBTC,” which means Our Best To Christ, both on and off the court, and these boys were truly deserving of all that they accomplished!
