The Cross Country team competed in the West Forsyth Weekday Meet last night at Chattahoochee Point Park. This is the same course that will serve as the site of the 6A Region meet. Many of our runners earned new season records yesterday. Both the Boys and Girls teams placed runners in the top 10.
Maria Carroll placed 2nd overall with her season best of 22:22. The other top scorers for the girls' team were Meghan Jennings in 9th place with a time of 24:59, Christina Aufleger in 12th place with a personal best of 25:59, Lucy Prados with a time of 26:57, and Samhita Mallavarapu with a time of 27:19. The top 5 finishers for Pinecrest placed in the top 20 overall, which is a huge accomplishment for the team. Katherine Palumbo, Jacinta Tran and Haley Jones also took two minutes off their fastest times.
The boys' team had 4 runners place in the top 20 overall. Joel Parker and Garrett Ruf came in 6th and 7th places respectively and earned new season records with times close to 20:35. The other top scorers for the team were Dominic Piron who placed 12th, Patrick Phelan in 21st, and Grant Mulac in 24th place. Garrett Witt earned a new personal record by 50 seconds. Tommy Flores, Alex Johnson and David Lindekugel also earned their fastest times for the season.
Both teams did an exceptional job. The fact that their times are improving is a testament to their hard work and devotion to their training. They are getting stronger each day.
We are looking forward to our next meet, the Sharpton Invitational, on October 17th in Jasper, Georgia.
