Paladins Fencing Team Hosts GHSFL Tournament

The Paladins Fencing Team hosted Round 3 of the Georgia High School Fencing League's fencing season on October 30.  Pinecrest hosted Campbell, Dunwoody, Walton, Lassiter, Milton, Pope, Chattahoochee, and North Atlanta High Schools.

The Women's Tournament took place first, with a total of 37 competitors. All of our ladies fought very hard and made it into the direct elimination round after the round of pool bouts. Senior Jonni Goughnour finished 9th, Senior Natalie Jennings finished 10th, Senior Ella Miller finished 13th, and Senior Gabriela Rodriguez finished 16th. Sophomore Kate Miller, with a recent knee injury, finished 24th.

The men's tournament had 53 competitors. This was only the second tournament for freshman Will Gebelein, who is new to the sport this year, and although he fenced very well, he didn't make it into the direct elimination round.

Everyone had a fantastic time, and Pinecrest received multiple compliments on running a very smooth tournament!

Says Coach Anderson, “We're still barely halfway into the season, so I'm optimistic about future successes for our fencers in the remaining tournaments! I want to thank the parents who showed up to support and help out, Coach Coury and Mrs. Bartling for helping me organize it, and Mr. Huynh for taking pictures!"
