Juniors Mark Milestone with "Passing the Torch" Ceremony
Our junior class experienced a new tradition called Passing the Torch, a milestone event signifying their move to becoming leaders of the high school. In previous years, juniors participated in a Junior Ring Ceremony in the fall, during which they received class rings.
After careful consideration, High School Administration and PAPA Board members decided to create a ceremony with a deeper meaning that serves as a true milestone for our juniors. Passing the Torch took place the morning of Wednesday, April 24 in Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel - a beautiful ceremony, whereby our seniors “passed the torch” on to the juniors.
The ceremony opened with a welcome from Mrs. Zalzman, High School Principal, and an explanation of the new tradition by Mrs. Price, High School Assistant Principal. Seniors Annemarie Doxtader and Joe Garcia, Student Council presidents, then addressed students, offering words of advice and encouragement for the Class of 2020, as they become leaders of the school.
Each junior received a blessed saint St. Theresa of Calcutta medal, chosen by Annemarie, Joe, and the senior class. They offered advice that the junior class should look to and call upon St. Theresa for strength and guidance during their upcoming senior year.
Medals were blessed by Fr. William Brock, LC, and then presented to the juniors. Mrs. Zalzman led the students in a Pinecrest Academy Pledge. Dr. Spurka, Head of School, concluded the ceremony with closing remarks.
We are proud of our junior and senior classes and the leadership they are committed to at Pinecrest Academy. May God bless them on their continued journeys!
