Holy Week Missions Help Middle School Girl Grow in Faith

Over 80 Pinecrest Academy Middle School students participated in Holy Week Missions, during which they spent the three days leading up to Easter in service to the community. Here is one student’s summary of this meaningful experience.

Being an eighth grader in today's society can be difficult in multiple ways. Finding ways to be accepted by my generation’s standards are nearly impossible. Doing small things to grow closer to Christ helps one overcome the impossible. Participating in Holy Week Missions is a life changing experience that prepares your heart for the resurrection of our Lord!

On the first day of Missions, we visited an assisted living home. The following day, the middle school missionaries visited local shopping centers and participated in public street missions to spread God's love. On the final day, we went to a local mobile home community and hosted an Easter egg hunt for children who are less fortunate than us.

On the second day, I was personally touched by a lady who was so moved that young people like me were spreading God’s love and joy on Good Friday. This lady cried while giving us her prayer intention of a friend’s daughter who is suffering with cancer. She was very grateful, and her gratitude made me feel so useful. It made me feel that I had a servant’s heart like Christ’s.

This missionary experience helped me witness how many struggles people are going through under the surface, and helped open my eyes to a world I have never seen in detail before. It also helped me realize how small works that I may overlook, such as simply talking to and hearing a person, can make such a big difference in people's daily life. You think you are the one who is serving on those days, when you are actually the one who is receiving God’s grace.

Overall, Middle School Missions 2017 was a meaningful experience that brought me closer to Christ in many different ways. I will absolutely be there next year and many more years to come!
