Fencing Team Hosts Eight High Schools for Tournament

On Saturday, December 4, Pinecrest Academy’s Fencing team hosted round 5 of the Georgia High School Fencing League's fencing season. Overall, it was our Paladins’ best performance in a tournament this season! We hosted Campbell, Dunwoody, Walton, Northview, Milton, Wheeler, Chattahoochee, and North Atlanta High Schools.

The women's tournament involved 30 competitors. Seniors Jonni Goughnour, Gabriela Rodriguez, and Natalie Jennings finished in a strong 6th, 7th, and 9th place, respectively. Sophomore Kate Miller and Senior Ella Miller finished in 18th and 19th place, respectively.

The men's tournament had 50 competitors. Freshman Will Gebelein made it into the direct elimination round for the first time since he started fencing. Senior Kenneth Crandall just missed the cutoff for making it into the direct elimination round.

It was an enjoyable tournament, but it was also a little bittersweet since it will be the last home tournament for our five seniors! It was special, though, because former Pinecrest teacher and fencing coach, Dr. Chad Morris, managed the tournament!

Coach Anderson wishes to again thank the parents who showed up to support and help out, Coach Coury and Mrs. Bartling for helping him organize it, and the Pinecrest students who came out to support our fencers!

“The season is winding down, but I am very optimistic about the women's team championship tournament that will happen on January 29,” said Coach Anderson.

Let’s go, Paladins!
