Lucia Trevino Named "GISA Teacher of the Year"

Lucia Trevino, High School Spanish Teacher and Foreign Language Department Chair at Pinecrest Academy, has been named "GISA Teacher of the Year."

GISA (Georgia Independent School Association) is a non-profit association of private, independent, and parochial schools throughout the State of Georgia. The mission of GISA is to advance excellence and collaboration among Georgia’s independent schools by serving the professional growth, advocacy, and interscholastic needs of member schools. Member schools share a unified commitment to overall excellence and to the nurturing and care of the physical, intellectual, social and moral development of all students.

Each GISA member school, including Pinecrest Academy, is fully accredited by one or more of the nationally recognized Regional accreditation bodies: Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) / AdvancEdSouthern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), or the Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC). The Association is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS); the Georgia Private Education Council (GPEC); the Council for American Private Education (CAPE), and an affiliate member of the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS).

GISA Teacher of the Year is a tremendous honor, as there are 166 GISA schools, all with candidates who were vying for this honor.

Trevino was also Pinecrest Academy’s honoree at the 12th annual Archbishop’s Banquet for Catholic Education in January 2019, during which one teacher from each Catholic school in Atlanta was honored.  She has been teaching at Pinecrest Academy for 13 years.
