What Does Big Lots Have to do with Holy Week Missions?

Middle School Student, Christine Mannino
What are Holy Week Missions and what did you do as a missionary?
Holy Week Missions is an opportunity to grow closer to Christ and help others grow closer to Him while preparing for Easter (Holy Week is the week leading up to Easter).
We participated in an array of activities, including visits to Easter Seals, a day care for underprivileged children, Street Missions, visits to nursing homes, and much more. All of these activities impacted the community through love and the power of prayer.

What had the biggest impact on you during Holy Week Missions?
My favorite part of Holy Week was the Street Missions. The experience I had was amazing. We stood in front of Big Lots, collecting prayer intentions from anyone who walked by. We held up a large wooden cross and waved to cars, and we had sticky notes to write down the prayer intentions. I was with Janaiah Durning and Gracyn Washburn. One employee of Big Lots was so happy with what we were doing that she bought us Coca-Cola and chocolate bars. She thanked us for our service and told us there should be more people like us. It made the three of us very happy and impacted our experience.

Would you recommend other students do Missions next year? Why?
Yes! I would definitely recommend Holy Week Missions to other students. It is an amazing experience and definitely a lot of fun as well. It will leave you feeling such happiness in your heart knowing all the amazing things you did for your community and for Jesus.
