Owl Pellet Lab Enriches Fifth Grade Lesson

Mrs. Samacicio’s fifth grade class at Pinecrest Academy enriched their study of the classification of organisms with an owl pellet lab.
Owl pellets contain fur, feathers, and bones that are the indigestible remains of small animals eaten by a wild barn owl. Students dissected the owl pellets, cleaned the bones, and used an “Owl Pellet Bone Chart” to determine what type of animal the owl consumed. What a fascinating learning experience!
