Pinecrest Academy 2018 Athletics Hall of Fame - Tickets on Sale!

Head of School, Dr. Edward Spurka, and Athletic Director, Mr. Chris Kane, have announced the 2018 class of the Pinecrest Athletics Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame program, which debuted in 2017, recognizes and celebrates the history of Pinecrest Academy athletics. The inductees include some of the school’s finest athletes from the earliest days of Pinecrest Athletics, and recognizes those who were instrumental in getting Pinecrest’s programs off the ground.  
 
Help us honor the following inductees into the 2018 Hall of Fame Class:
 
Annelise Nevarez Drapeau ‘08: Nevarez Drapeau was a three sport standout for Pinecrest. She was a two-time All-Region selection for volleyball and basketball and three-time All-Region player in soccer. She was named All-State in all three sports as a senior, and was selected as the Female Athlete of the Year as a senior. She helped lead the Paladins to three volleyball Region Championships and two soccer Region Championships. She went on to play soccer at Christian Brothers University in Tennessee.
 
Dan Moffit '08: Moffit was a standout cross country runner for the Paladins. He was a three-time All-Region and All-State selection. He also was the first individual Region Champion in 2005 and the first individual State Champion in 2007. He helped lead the Varsity Boys Cross Country team to its first Region title in 2007 and also Pinecrest’s first State Championship that same year. Moffit went on to have a successful cross country career at the University of West Georgia.
 
Joe Neiner '11: Neiner was a three-sport star during his time at Pinecrest. On the football field, Neiner was a three-time All-Region and two-time All-State player. He still holds Paladin career records for catches and receiving yards. On the court, Neiner was a two-time All-State and All-County selection and a three-time All-Region selection. He is a member of the 1,000-point club, with 1,353 career points, ranking him second on the list for Varsity Boys Basketball players at Pinecrest. Neiner also was the school’s first Individual Champion in two different track and field events. As a sophomore, he was the State Champion in the Triple Jump, and as a senior, won the 300 meter hurdles at the State Championship meet. He holds four individual school records (300 meter hurdles, long jump, triple jump, and high jump) and two school records for the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays. After graduation, Neiner went on to Birmingham Southern to play basketball.
 
Coach Andres Montana: Coach Montana was Pinecrest’s first High School Basketball Coach. He helped the Paladins build a powerhouse in GISA from 2004 through 2010. During that time, Pinecrest played for two State Championships, and Montana was selected as Region Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2008. While leading the basketball program, 18 Paladins garnered All-Region honor,s and nine were selected with All-State honors. As the Head Coach for Varsity Boys Cross Country, Montana led the Paladins to the school’s first State Championship in 2007, and was also selected as the State Coach of the Year. Coach Montana also created the motto, “OBTC,” Our Best To Christ, which is still used in the Athletic Department today.
 
The Hall of Fame class will be recognized on Friday, October 5, 2018 at halftime of the Pinecrest Varsity Football game vs. Mount Pisgah. Honorees will be formally inducted on Saturday evening, October 6, 2018, at the Hall of Fame Banquet, to be held in the Upper School Gymnasium.
 
The Banquet begins at 6pm, and tickets for the event are $25. Tickets are on sale now through sports registration. Pinecrest Athletic Club (PAC) Members receive two free tickets to this event. Pinecrest Corporate Sponsors at the Squire Level and above also receive two free tickets.
 
Pinecrest Academy Hall of Fame Inductees were selected by an 18-person selection committee comprised of teachers, coaches, community members, and alumni. A two-part voting process was conducted last spring, with the committee selecting from more than thirty-five (35) Hall of Fame nominations. Eligible athletes must have graduated from Pinecrest Academy at least seven years prior to the year of nomination. Coaches who have not been in an active coaching position with Pinecrest Athletics for three years prior to the year of nomination are eligible.
