Ash Wednesday Services Begin the Holy Lenten Season

Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of the Lenten season in the Catholic Church, as hundreds from the Pinecrest Academy community donned cross-shaped ashes on their foreheads on Wednesday, February 14, 2018.
These ashes remind us of our mortality and encourage us to spend the next 40 days of Lent as a time of reflection and penitence, leading up to Easter Sunday.

We are so grateful for all of our priests, who spent countless hours distributing ashes, celebrating Mass, and delivering powerful homilies meant to help us enter this season of Lent with contrite hearts -- ready to pray, fast, and give. It was beautiful to witness the children’s response to this call to holiness and to welcome so very many of our parents to the services!

Two reporters from the Forsyth County News also visited campus to learn more about this special day in our Church. Members of the faculty and staff were interviewed and did a magnificent job of explaining what the season of Lent is all about.

Fr. Matthew agreed to be interviewed on camera, and the result is a beautiful explanation of this liturgical season, and how our children are able to participate, on a regular basis, in gospel readings, chapel visits, and Masses that help them imitate Jesus.

Take a couple of minutes to watch this lovely interview that also includes footage of the Ash Wednesday service our kindergarten through second grade classes attended:
