Pinecrest Academy Head of School, Dr. Edward Spurka, and Athletic Director, Mr. Chris Kane, are pleased to announce the 2018 class of the Pinecrest Athletics Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame program, which debuted in 2017, recognizes and celebrates the history of Pinecrest Academy athletics. The inductees include some of the school’s finest athletes from the earliest days of Pinecrest Athletics, and recognizes those who were instrumental in getting Pinecrest’s programs off the ground.

It is with great pleasure that Pinecrest announces the following inductees into the 2018 Hall of Fame Class:

Bridget Camacho '10:  Camacho was a standout volleyball player for the Paladins. She was a four-time All-Region and three-time All-State selection. She helped lead the Paladins to their only State Championship in 2009 and four straight Region Championships. Camacho was also Pinecrest’s first student-athlete to sign a National Letter of Intent for a Division I program, Virginia Commonwealth, and she went on to finish her collegiate volleyball career at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Annelise Nevarez Drapeau ‘08: Nevarez Drapeau was a three sport standout for Pinecrest. She was a two-time All-Region selection for volleyball and basketball and three-time All-Region player in soccer. She was named All-State in all three sports as a senior, and was selected as the Female Athlete of the Year as a senior. She helped lead the Paladins to three volleyball Region Championships and two soccer Region Championships. She went on to play soccer at Christian Brothers University in Tennessee.

Dan Moffit '08: Moffit was a standout cross country runner for the Paladins. He was a three-time All-Region and All-State selection. He also was the first individual Region Champion in 2005 and the first individual State Champion in 2007. He helped lead the Varsity Boys Cross Country team to its first Region title in 2007 and also Pinecrest’s first State Championship that same year. Moffit went on to have a successful cross country career at the University of West Georgia.

Joe Neiner '11: Neiner was a three-sport star during his time at Pinecrest. On the football field, Neiner was a three-time All-Region and two-time All-State player. He still holds Paladin career records for catches and receiving yards. On the court, Neiner was a two-time All-State and All-County selection and a three-time All-Region selection. He is a member of the 1,000-point club, with 1,353 career points, ranking him second on the list for Varsity Boys Basketball players at Pinecrest. Neiner also was the school’s first Individual Champion in two different track and field events. As a sophomore, he was the State Champion in the Triple Jump, and as a senior, won the 300 meter hurdles at the State Championship meet. He holds four individual school records (300 meter hurdles, long jump, triple jump, and high jump) and two school records for the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays. After graduation, Neiner went on to Birmingham Southern to play basketball.

Coach Andres Montana: Coach Montana was Pinecrest’s first High School Basketball Coach. He helped the Paladins build a powerhouse in GISA from 2004 through 2010. During that time, Pinecrest played for two State Championships, and Montana was selected as Region Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2008. While leading the basketball program, 18 Paladins garnered All-Region honor,s and nine were selected with All-State honors. As the Head Coach for Varsity Boys Cross Country, Montana led the Paladins to the school’s first State Championship in 2007, and was also selected as the State Coach of the Year. • Varsity Girls Lax Team Faces Westminster in First Playoff Game - May 7

It has been a record season for our Varsity Girls Lacrosse team. They are currently 14 and 3, and their first play-off game is slated for Monday, May 7, against The Westminster School. The girls have had a phenomenal season, with every player contributing to the score.

The determination of the seniors, being the driving force on the team, has led to many of their wins. The team has nine senior girls with a strong desire to take the team as far as they can go. Their lead scorer is Molly Dankowski, who made her 100th goal for the year in the last regular season game. Followed by Molly is Alex Tilkin, who is enjoying a sensational season after being out for over a year with an ACL injury. These young ladies have many years of lacrosse experience and inspire the team toward goals they want to achieve.

The Lady Paladins have become a force on the field, really working together to get everyone to score. Ella Binkley leads the team in assists this year and will be one to watch next year, along with Nika Brown.

A few of the girls had never played lacrosse until this year, and many have only played in high school. The team is continually facing teams with many year-round club players or athletes committed to play in college. Our smaller Paladins team and the lack of year-round players has not deterred this fabulous group of athletes from giving it their all in every game. Way to go Lady Paladins!

  • More Than 150 Attend Pinecrest Rosary Rally

Sports Leader, a virtue-based leadership organization in partnership with Pinecrest Academy, has a tradition each sports season to conduct a Rosary Rally in honor of the season’s coaches, players, teams, and parents. These rallies provide a beautiful opportunity for all to gather and pray the rosary together as a group, as seasons kickoff.

More than 120 athletes and over 30 parents and school staff attended Pinecrest’s first Rosary Rally on our own campus, in Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel. Baseball, Lacrosse, Tennis, Golf, and Soccer teams were all represented.

High School Chaplain, Father Daren, created a moving ceremony, featuring a candle procession and readings by select team captains, representing all of the boys’ and girls’ teams. Prayer intentions were offered specifically for coaches, parents, players, teams, and fans of all sports. In addition, a basket of special intentions, submitted by the athletes, was brought to the Altar.

Special thanks goes to Miss Kathleen Nichols for her presentation that focused athletes’ attention on the significance of specific stain glassed windows in the Chapel, which face the athletic complex. She explained the formation ideals set forth for our school, and most importantly, for each of our athletes who wear the Paladin crest.

The Rosary Rally was capped off by all participants partaking in Krispy Kreme Donuts and coffee, through the generosity of Mrs. Paige Brown, and Mrs. Kasselin's Regnum Christi Team, which includes Barbara Conticelli, Margaret Frain, Anne Holdsworth, Patrice Pittman.

  • Varsity Girls Lacrosse Team Holds Jersey Night

Pinecrest’s Varsity Girls Lacrosse team held its Jersey Night ceremony on Tuesday evening, February 20, in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel. Jersey Night is a beautiful and unique ceremony, during which dads present their daughters with their game jerseys for the season. Each dad takes a moment to tell his daughter how much he loves her, that he is proud of her, and then shares a virtue (or virtues) that he sees in his daughter.

This event is always so special for all of our Varsity athletes, and is a special bonding opportunity for young ladies and their fathers.

The Varsity Girls Lacrosse Jersey Night was bittersweet, as it was the final Jersey Night for our nine senior players.

  • Two Varsity Boys Lacrosse Players Profiled as Top Goal Scorers

Two Pinecrest Varsity Boys Lacrosse players have been profiled on MAXPreps as top 5 goal scorers in the State after Week 1, including the #1 ranking.

David Stubbs is currently the leading scorer in the State with 7 goals, and Ryan Difazio is tied for #2 with six goals.  In the Paladins’ 14-1 win on February 16, David had a huge game with 5 goals, and Coach Davidson was pleased to see the Paladins had 7 different players score, along with a strong defensive effort.  Ryan Difazio is off to a consistent start, with 3 goals in each of the Paladins’ first two games.

According to Coach Davidson, “As a developing team, we have a long way to go (and stat rankings will surely fluctuate throughout the course of the season), but I was excited to see our Pinecrest logo profiled on MAXPreps' stat page as a result of David's, Ryan's, and the team's week 1 success on the field. “

Our kind-hearted swimmers dedicated their meet to Grace Ganet, who is dying of a rare disease. She started the Divine Mercy Chaplet in the Nguyen family’s former parish by praying with people for their intentions before and after Masses. She has done this for more than 1,000 people - and now she needs our prayers! Please join Middle School Swimmers in praying for Ms. Ganet.

  • Recreational Soccer Registration -- Closes January 12

Registration for Recreational Soccer will close on Friday, January 12. After January 12, a late fee of $25 will be added to the total and athletes will not be guaranteed a spot on a team. Pinecrest’s team rosters are due to the league soon after registration closes, so it is very difficult to add players on at that point.

There are two places parents will need to register -- once on Pinecrest’s registration site, where parents will submit payment, and then once on the United Futbol Academy (UFA) site, where parents will submit player information so that UFA has it in their system.

Please keep in mind that parents will ONLY submit payment through Pinecrest’s registration - NOT UFA's system. There are detailed instructions via the link below that explain how to register into UFA's system and how to avoid the payment at the end of their registration.

The commitment to this recreational league is one practice a week for one hour and one game on Saturdays. Some of the older age groups like to practice twice a week; this usually begins at the U10 or U12 level. Practice schedules will likely be available in early February.

Each player is placed on a team according to their age, NOT by grade level. Please use the information below as a reference to see what level each player would be assigned to, based on age.

    U6 League - Born in 2012, 2013
    U8 League - Born in 2010, 2011
    U10 League - Born in 2008, 2009
    U12 League - Born in 2006, 2007

The first practices will begin the week of Tuesday, February 20 (Monday is President's Day). Each team will have a one-hour slot on one particular day each week throughout the season (i.e. every Tuesday at 3:30-4:30).

The first games will be on Saturday, March 3. Parents interested in coaching a team are invited to contact Ryan Weingart, Associate Athletic Director.

IMPORTANT: Please remember that you need to register on two separate sites, once through Pinecrest and once through UFA, as stated above. It is very important that information is submitted on both sites.

Questions regarding the league or registration may be sent to Ryan Weingart.
