  • PAC Sponsor of the Week: Atlanta Rehabilitation and Performance Center

    Atlanta Rehabilitation and Performance Center (ARPC) is a privately owned, outpatient sports medicine and physical therapy company. ARPC currently maintains 11 facilities throughout the North Georgia Area. ARPC also utilizes Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs) to provide Outreach Sports Medicine Services to 21 high schools in five counties.
     
    ARPC has been a devoted community partner to local high schools and surrounding communities for the past 20 years. ARPC has been blessed to serve and provide medical coverage to the Paladin community for the past 10 years. The ARPC staff is dedicated to doing the “little things,” going “above and beyond,” and treating their patients, athletes, and communities as family.

    Our Varsity Swim Paladins competed well at the Tri-Meet between Denmark High School, West Forsyth High School, and Pinecrest Academy at the Cumming Aquatic Center on Friday, November 8. Here are the results for Pinecrest:

  • This Week in Paladin Athletics 11/11-11/25/2019

    Varsity Cheerleading Qualifies for State
    The Pinecrest Varsity Cheerleaders have qualified for the State Competition which will be held on Friday, November 15 at the Columbus Civic Center (400 Fourth Street, Columbus, GA)! The Pinecrest cheerleaders compete in the 7:00pm session and will be the second team to perform in that grouping. Tickets are $12 at the door. Congratulations to Coach Cooney and her talented squad for making it to States! Please wish them luck this week!
     
    Swim Team Starts Season Strong
    • Pinecrest Seniors Anthony Birozes and Mason Carter both have qualified in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle for STATE within the first two meets of the season.
    • Currently, the Varsity Swim Team has qualified three relays (200 Men’s Medley Relay, 200 Men’s Free Relay, 200 Women’s Free Relay) and four individual events for the STATE meet, and we are only two meets into the season!
    • Congratulations to Junior Diego Perez who broke a seven-year Pinecrest swim record in the 100 backstroke at Friday night's swim meet!  Diego has also broken the record for the 200 freestyle in the first meet of the year. The 200 Men’s Medley Relay (Perez, Borgerding, Birozes, Carter) and 200 Men’s Free Relay (Spillane, Perez, Carter, Birozes) also broke PA records this weekend!
    National Letter of Intent Signing - Jay Sorohan - Friday, November 15 at noon
    Pinecrest senior Jay Sorohan will sign his Letter of Intent to play baseball at Kennesaw State University on Friday, November 15 at noon in the Upper School Gym. Students, teachers, administrators, Jay’s family, and the entire PA Baseball community is invited to attend the Signing. Cake will be served in the lower atrium following the Signing.
     
    Teacher Appreciation Night for Varsity Swim - November 15
    The MS and Varsity swim team will participate in a swim meet on Friday, November 15 at 8:00pm at Cumming Aquatic Center. It will be the Varsity Swim Team’s Teacher Appreciation Night. Please come out to support the swim team!
     
    Coach Mathis -- Atlanta Falcons HS Coach of the Week
    Congratulations to Pinecrest Varsity Football Coach Terance Mathis for being selected as an Atlanta Falcons HS Coach of the Week. Coach Mathis will be recognized at the Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Atlanta Falcons home game on Sunday, December 22 and Pinecrest will receive a $1,000 equipment grand for our football program. To read the entire article, click here!
     
    PAC Spirit Night at Culver's - TONIGHT!

Winter Sports Varsity Coaches

  • Varsity Boys Basketball Coach - John Bauersfeld

    Before coming to Pinecrest, Bauersfeld served as Head Coach at Calvert Hall High School in Baltimore, MD for 11 years. He also served as the Department Chair for the Social Studies Department for several years at Calvert Hall. Bauersfeld's teams won over 200 games during his tenure at Calvert Hall, including the Baltimore Catholic League Championship in 2010, 2014, and 2015. He was named Baltimore Catholic League Coach of the Year four times, most recently in 2016. Bauersfield has coached numerous players who have gone on to play at the collegiate level, including nine at the Division I level, playing at Villanova, Louisville, Providence, and Connecticut. 2011 Calvert Hall alumnus, Damion Lee, is currently in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks.

    Bauersfeld served as an assistant for three years under the legendary Cardinals coach, Mark Amatucci, before taking the reins in 2007. He most recently served as an assistant for USA East Coast Basketball, working with coaching legend and Hall of Famer, Coach Larry Brown. The team of college all-stars traveled to Spain in August 2017 to participate in an international tournament.

    Bauersfeld is a 1994 graduate of Calvert Hall and a 1998 graduate of Gettysburg College, where he served as Co-captain of the Men’s Basketball team during his senior year. He earned a Masters in Secondary Education from Towson University, and begins teaching in the Social Studies and English departments at Pinecrest in August 2018. Bauersfeld and his wife Jillian have been married for nine years and have three boys, Will (7), Noah (5) and Asher (2).
  • Varsity Girls Basketball - Jonathan Oshinski

    Jonathan Oshinski is a Pinecrest alumnus (Class of 2010) and currently serves as the Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach and Middle School Baseball Coach. As a student, he played four years of varsity basketball and baseball and received a number of accolades in both sports. After graduating from Pinecrest, Oshinski attended The University of Georgia and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education. In addition to his studies, Oshinski served as a team manager for the UGA women’s basketball team and Hall of Fame coach, Andy Landers, from 2013-2015. In the fall of 2015, he began working as an assistant coach for the Varsity and JV Girls Basketball teams at Oconee County High School.

    Upon returning to Pinecrest in 2016, he coached the 7th grade boys’ basketball team to win the Metro-10 Championship. In 2017, he coached both the 7th and 8th grade boys’ teams and reached the championship game again with the 8th grade boys. Oshinski also coaches middle school baseball and has recently completed a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Coaching Education from Georgia Southern University.
  • Varsity Swim & Dive - Denise Jordan

    Denise Jordan has over 35 years of swimming and soccer coaching experience, and has been at Pinecrest for 13 years. After playing soccer in college and for the Georgia Women's Soccer Association, she began teaching and coaching. She coached soccer at St. Pius X Catholic High School and Wesleyan, and started the Swim program at Wesleyan. Upon her arrival at Pinecrest, she started the Swim program here.

    Coach Jordan has also coached summer swimming at Briarcliff Woods Beach Club, Nottaway, Embry Hills, Fieldstone, and Ansley Golf Club, where her team was Country Club Swim Team Champion during the years 1989-2000. Coach Jordan received the Atlanta Swimming Association Coach of the Year award in 2016, and two Pinecrest alumni she coached are swimming in college. She also teaches Middle School English and has a son named Nicholas.
  • Director of Wrestling - Mark Schmidt

    Mark Schmidt has been coaching wrestling for over 36 years, two of which have been at Pinecrest Academy. He wrestled and coached at Oklahoma State University and was co-founder of the Poly-America Wrestling Club in Texas, which achieved six Texas Team State titles and hundreds of State Champions. As a private coach, athletes coached by Coach Schmidt have received over 700 tournament titles and 23 national individual championships. His team at W.T. High School in Texas won 2nd Place in the State Tournament and produced three individual champions. When he’s not coaching wrestling, Mr. Schmidt is the Vice President and Managing Partner of Coastal General Contractors and Mansion Properties. He has four children and two grandchildren.
