  • Patrick O’Rourke ’19 Throws First Perfect Game in Berry History

Patrick O'Rourke '19, a sophomore pitcher on the Berry College Baseball team, threw the first Perfect Game in Berry history on Saturday, March 6, 2021, with Berry beating Millsaps 13-0. This is an amazing feat, since last year, Patrick broke a finger on his pitching hand, had to have surgery before the baseball season started, and had no play time in 2020.

This Perfect Game "first" in Berry Baseball history has only happened 23 times in Major League Baseball history.

Currently, Patrick is 2-0 on the season and has 25 strikeouts and only 2 walks in 21 innings pitched. The Vikings are 4-1 in games that he has pitched.

Patrick was a four-year starter for Pinecrest Academy, and holds numerous season and career records as a pitcher for the Paladins. He is the career leader in wins (23), strikeouts (227), innings pitched (240), career ERA (2.44), and career WHIP (1.24). His Sophomore, Junior and Senior seasons each rank in the Top 5 of individual season records in wins, strikeouts, innings pitched, ERA and WHIP, taking the top spot in all but the ERA single season record (he’s #2 with a 1.45 ERA).

Patrick sweeps the top three spots for Paladins season records in both innings pitched and strikeouts. He went 4-1 as a starter in the post-season for the Paladins, losing only his first start as a Sophomore, which was Pinecrest’s first appearance in the playoffs for Baseball.

He won awards at the county, region and state levels during his tenure at Pinecrest Academy. He also threw a no hitter against King’s Ridge his Senior season.
