What is the National Honor Society?
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since 1921.  Our local chapter is John Paul II.

Why Join?
The National Honor Society is a nationally recognized and respected organization.

Membership is widely considered to be a testament to the student's excellent scholastic achievement. It also demonstrates possession of a superior character, with proven qualities in leadership, service, integrity and charity.

Membership in the National Honor Society is highly regarded by colleges. NHS members enhance their applications for admittance to the college of their choice, as well as for scholarship opportunities.

How Do I Join?
Upcoming juniors and seniors must be invited to join. There is no automatic membership.

A student must have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.50 to be considered for membership. However, a minimum 3.5 GPA does not mean an automatic membership.

Students meeting the GPA qualification will be sent a Student Activity Information Form over the summer. This form allows the NHS Faculty Council to consider the student's Leadership, Service, and Character qualifications, in addition to their GPA. The student's total formation qualities are examined, including displays of exceptional formation, as well as any indication of character challenges.

A vote is then taken by the council on each student to determine if an invitation will be extended to become an NHS member.

Chosen candidates and their parents are invited to attend a formal induction ceremony at Pinecrest in the fall.
