Catholic Formation

This course focuses on the realization of God’s love made manifest by His laws, the Ten Commandments, and the sacrifice of the Mass.  The course concludes with a closer look at the Last Things: judgment, heaven, hell, and purgatory, and the second coming of Christ.

Language Arts

A sound knowledge of grammar, the ability to read, analyze and appreciate good literature, and the ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing comprise the foundation of the English Language Arts program. In all grades, essential skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing for information and understanding, literary response and expression, analysis and evaluation, and, communication and social interaction will be developed.

Mathematics

A sound curriculum in mathematics consists of enabling students to become mathematically confident by communicating and reasoning mathematically, by applying mathematics in real-world settings, and by solving problems through the integrated study of number systems, geometry, algebra, data analysis, probability, and statistics.

Earth Science

This course will introduce students to the broad workings of the field of science and the fundamental processes related to Earth and its functions. The components of the course will include geology, oceanography, meteorology and astronomy. Students will explore the wonders of Earth within our solar system.  The study of Earth’s atmosphere, biosphere, lithosphere, and hydrosphere will be emphasized. Students will appreciate the challenges of our contemporary global environment and learn to outline positive measures of action.

U.S. History Part I

Students will study the foundation and development of the nation up to the time of Reconstruction. Included in this yearlong course are important concepts, such as the formation of a colonial government founded on Judeo-Christian principals, the ideals of the Enlightenment, and the English traditions of self-government.   Studying the cause, course, and consequences of the early explorations through the War for Independence, the Civil War, western expansion, and Reconstruction are central to understanding how the principles of the American republic form the basis of a pluralistic society in which individual rights are secured.  

Spanish

This is the last year of a six-level program which brings the student from the very basics of Spanish up to a first-year upper school proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  This course offers the student the opportunity to increase vocabulary, improve conversational skills, practice and learn more advance grammar concepts, improve their pronunciation and reading comprehension skills.  While learning the language, the student also explores Spanish speaking countries and investigates topics relevant to them.

Introduction to Visual Arts

This course is a survey of visual arts.  The curriculum is designed to expand basic understanding of the arts and of their importance in our cultural and social development.  Topics may include; painting, drawing, sculpture, and art history.

Introduction to Performing Arts

This course is a survey of the performing arts.  The curriculum is designed to expose students to the basics of both performing and appreciating the arts.  Topics may include acting techniques, chorus, and stage productions.

Introduction to Technology

This course is an introduction to office applications using Microsoft Office XP.  Topics may include Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher.

Physical Education

The emphasis in this course is on increased fitness in the areas of cardio vascular endurance, flexibility and agility.  Topics may include team and lifetime sports such as football, floor hockey, softball, baseball, volleyball, tennis, basketball and soccer.
